Photoshop Tutorial Lessons

We started off this unit by adding this elephant to this city scene. I didn't mess this one up but could have done better with the shadow.
In the next lesson, we edited a random person into a photo who originally had Ed Sheeran as the focus. I managed to get a bruise on his left eye but in trying to remove a mistake on the right side I messed it up to the point of no return. This is because I used too much of the burn and dodge tool. Here is what happened:

In our third tutorial lesson, we had a couple to edit and then went and took our own photo's and did the same technique. we used the gradient tool and this wasn't as much of a mess up as the last lesson.

Possible models

These are my group and are the models I am allowed to choose from for my photos. First, we have Josh who is 16 and then we have Wanya who is 17.
Poster Breakdowns

The target audience for the two posters would be around 15 - 20. The reason why both of these films are the same are:
Deadpool 2's humour is definitely targeted towards late teens / early adults and clearly states sometimes about "you young ones".
Predator has always been targeted to young adults do 18 - 23 would be the rough target audience (because the first movie was an 18 is the only reason why the target audience doesn't extend to late teens).

Mindmaping

There are two storylines that I have been able to imagine the most. One is the detective who tries to catch a perpetrator and the other is the one about the man who robs a convenience store.

Synopsis'

Here are the synopses of the two film ideas:

Hold Up - This movie is about a mysterious teenager who holds up a convenience store in the middle of the night for some extra cash. There are 6 hostages and it quickly escalates and the FBI get involved. There are only a few ways out. Incarceration, Death or a life on the run. Which one will they choose?

Bombing - This movie is about a detective who loses his family and partner in a bombing accident. He tries to track down the people responsible and comes across an entire organisation. Will he report it and let superiors deal with it or will he take them on himself?

I have chosen to use Hold Up because I have more ideas about what to do and the idea came to me more naturally than Bombing did.

Moodboards

Here are films that I pulled out which were about hostage situations. They all have this theme but also a similar storyline. They are all well-rated films and I have watched most of them.

These are all tv shows about hostage situations or that include a few episodes with hostage situations within them. Their all well-rated shows but I haven't watched any of them. Hostages and Bosch have been in my watch later list for a while now but I just haven't gotten round to watching them as of yet.

These are all pictures that could be used as aspects for Hold Up. These are all things that may even be used to 3. The M1911 will probably be the gun used with the hold up as its easy to resource and simple to make too.

Drafting our character

This is going to be the character that my model will be dressed as

The reason I designed my character in the way I have done this because of the stereotypes associated with the character but is also because what he is wearing isn't too identifiable and blends in with lots of teens and the actual hood of the hoodie is good for hiding the protagonist's identity from cameras.

Poster Recreation

This is my attempt of recreating the guardians of the galaxy vol 2 poster with the elements given to us over the teaching resources blog.

Colour Theory

This is the colour theory work that we did. This is all about what colours go with what and this helps graphic designers to make posters and other content.

Poster Recreation

The following picture is the result of us merging the Blade Runner 2048 poster with the Drive (2011) poster.

These are the posters I based the image off. I changed the background image so that it would work better with the rest of the images.

Colour Palates

We were set the task of creating six colour palates. In this task, we had to make six boxes and fill them with colours we are thinking about using, in their combinations for the film poster.

The first palate is really just the primary colours and has more of a simple feel about it.
The second palate has more of a dull look to it.
The third palate's colours feel more like a mash and the cream colour doesn't work with the others. The fourth palate has more complication to it but also has that cream colour, Therefore I don't think it works as well as I hoped it would.
The fifth palate has nice colours on it but at the same time doesn't seem to mix the same way I thought they would.
The sixth and final palate has a nice mix to it. I like the contrast between the colours and think they will work well on the poster.

I think that I will choose between either the first or sixth palate. They are both good and I have a lot of thoughts about them. I like the mixing of the colours used. I do think I prefer the first palate over the sixth one but I don't think I will use it as its just the primary colours. To me, it feels like a cheats way for a good mix of colours that aren't original. Therefore I am choosing the sixth palate.

Proof of non-destructive editing

We have been tasked to use non-destructive editing to remove the backgrounds of the pictures we might use in our posters. These are the two I selected.

This is the layers and pictures after I edited them to a blank background.

Concepts
Here are my four concepts. These are the designs I made and like enough to use as a poster idea.

I like the way that this poster works but, I don't like the garishness of the primary colours. It worked best with the primary colours but doesn't work as well I had hoped.

The only part of this I like is the mirrored face. The text seems to be more from a rom-com than anything else.

I love the text that I used for this. That's my favourite version of the text.

I don't like this version. I was going from a suggestion from a friend and it doesn't work.

I like the text and background image for number three and like the model image that was mirrored on number two. I plan to merge these together and edit them for my final product.

Photoshop effect tutorial

We were tasked to learn a new editing feature that we might use in photoshop for our final poster. I chose gradient fading as I couldn't remember how to do it.

Starting off with the top image you want to have, remove all backgrounds whichever way is easiest for you.

Insert this background-less image onto your desired background.

Scale to fit

Rasterize the layer and enter the gradient tool. Select to use a black to clear option for the image so that it will fade.

Use the gradient tool to fade the image and make the top image merge into the bottom one.
